Lecture, V4B1 - Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations I, WS 2012/13
Introduction
This course is the standard PDE course for beginning Master students. Some prior knowledge along the lines of the PDE sequence for Bachelor students at Bonn is anywhere between helpful and required (if this is too vague and you are entering student from a different Bachelor program and wonder whether you are prepared for this course, please consult with me in person). The course PDE and Functional Analysis of the Bonn Bachelor sequence is offered concurrently.
Note that the PDE sequence at Bonn also covers much material in other fields of analysis that may go under different names in different nomenclature systems.
Course credit
If you have achieved at least half of the points of the homework assignments in a timely fashion, you will be allowed to register for an oral exam on the course. Upon passing the exam you will obtain credit for the course (module).Books
In the first phase of the course we cover regularity theory for elliptic PDE such as roughly described in the first eight sections of Gilbarg/Trudinger: Elliptic PDE of second order. We will however choose a modified approach at places.Lecture Notes
