Andy Baker (Glasgow University): The Steenrod algebra and its subHopf algebras as P-algebras with some applications in stable homotopy theory
Abstract
It has been known for over half a century that cohomology calculations over the Steenrod algebra often reduce to calculations over finite subHopf algebras such as the A(n) family.
There is a systematic theory that gives some insight into this, the theory of
P-algebras, due to Margolis and building on work of Moore and Peterson on nearly
Frobenius algebras.
I will discuss some of the main properties of P-algebras that allow very easy calculations
which using vanishing of Ext groups for certain types of module. If there is time I will also discuss comodules over the dual Hopf algebra of a P-algebra.
