Shintaro Nishikawa (Universität Münster): On a controlled algebraic aspect of the gamma element method for the Baum-Connes conjecture
Abstract
Let G be a second countable, locally compact, Hausdorff group. The Baum-Connes assembly map for G is defined from the G-equivariant K-homology of proper G-spaces to the K-theory of the reduced group C*-algebra of G. For discrete G, inspired from ideas of controlled topology, Yu realized the assembly map as the forget-control map defined on so-called localization algebras. I will describe a connection between this forget-control map perspective of BC and the gamma element method, a versatile strategy for proving Baum theConnes conjecture. In this talk, I will not assume any knowledge of Baum-Connes and of C*-algebras.
