Ian Leary (University of Southampton, UK): Generalized Bestvina-Brady groups and their applications
Abstract
I will outline the construction of an uncountable family of groups of type FP, and sketch the corollary that every countable group embeds in a group of type FP_2. This corollary seems to be a counterexample to the philosophy that any statement that is valid for all countable groups should have a simple proof.
