PATRICK DEHORNOY (Caen): News from Garside theory
Abstract
About fifteen years ago, it was shown that most of the algebraic properties of braid groups extend to a larger family of groups known as Garside groups. A crucial role is played by the existence of remarkable decompositions for the elements of the involved groups, the so-called greedy normal form. Analyzing the mechanism of this normal form more closely leads to further generalizations. Removing superfluous hypotheses, such as Noetherianity assumptions or existence of a lattice structure, helps us to capture new examples, better understand the essential elements, and derive new applications.
