Mark Powell (MPI): Slice knots and Casson towers (11/11/2014) -->

Abstract

I will give a geometric construction of new topologically slice knots, using Casson towers. These knots have non-trivial Alexander polynomial. I will try to explain what is a Casson tower, and the relation of Casson towers and of our slice knots to 4-dimensional topological surgery problems. This is joint work with Jae Choon Cha.
