Alexander Kupers (Stanford): String topology and radial slit configurations (11/12/2012)
Abstract
After explaining what higher string operations are and why they might be interesting, we give a concrete construction using Bödigheimer's radial slit configurations. After this we discuss the possibility of compactified string operations and how these can be used to prove vanishing results for higher string operations, culminating in a question about the homology of mapping class groups I would like to know the answer to.
