Christoph Wockel (U. Hamburg): Topological group cohomology for Lie groups

Abstract: 
In this talk we will give an introduction into the basic concepts and ideas 
of group cohomology for topological and Lie groups. Moreover, we will
illustrate the problems that arise in geometric contexts with the canonical
candidates for Lie group cohomology. In the end we will line out an
axiomatic characterisation of Lie group cohomology and give an explicit
model for it. Moreover, we show how it relates to the aforementioned
canonical candidates. A guiding example throughout will be the description
of (higher) connected covers of Lie groups, in particular the spin group and
the string group.
