This course concerns Lie algebras and their representation theory.
Topics to be discussed: General theory of Lie algebras, structure theory and classification of semisimple Lie algebras in terms of Dynkin diagrams, root systems, (finite dimensional) irreducible representations, character formulae, ...

Prerequisites are a basic knowledge of algebra (mainly linear algebra) and possibly some elementary algebraic geometry.
