Doctoral and qualifying fellowships



Applications for fellowships starting April 2012 can be submitted any time, but not later than December 15, 2011. After a first evaluation of the applications we invite some candidates for an interview. The next round of interviews will take place on February 2, 2012 in Bonn. We expect a short mathematical talk of 30 minutes (e.g. on your master or diplom thesis) and examine your background in topology for another 30 minutes. Decisions are then made within a couple of days.

The doctoral fellowships are awarded for a period of 24 months, with the possibility of a 12 months extension. The doctoral fellowships amount to EUR 1.365,- per month plus an allowance for expenses (pauschaler Sachkostenzuschuss) of EUR 103,-. Fellows with children may be eligible for additional family allowances. Applicants for doctoral fellowships should hold, or be close to completing, a university degree in mathematics comparable to a Diplom or Masters degree with grades above average.

The qualifying fellowships are awarded for a period of 12 months in which the fellow is expected to prepare for the subsequent doctoral program. If the qualifying period is completed successfully, a doctoral fellowships may be awarded directly afterwards. The qualifying fellowships amount to EUR 800,- per month. Applicants for qualifying fellowships should hold, or be close to completing, a Bachelors degrees in mathematics (or equivalent) with grades above average.

The application deadlines are :
December 15 for summer terms (starting April)
May 15 for winter terms (starting October).
